Approaches and Features

  1. Reducing Poverty in alignment with the national goal of poverty reduction and contributing directly to Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 1 and 7.
  2. Building on the work and achievements of the forestry sector for the past 20 years.
  3. Scaling up good practices geographically and thematically expansion to reach up to 61 districts.
  4. Promoting multi stakeholders approach to bring government and non-state actors together and provide an opportunity to work jointly for forestry sector development and reform. A wide range of stakeholders including the private sector implement MSFP.
  5. Harmonising donors support of at least three donors --SDC, DFID, and GoF-- to reduce the transaction costs and minimise fragmentation of donors’ interventions and support.
  6. Committing long-term support for a 10-year programme in a multilateral mode.
  7. Considering the fluid political context with different approaches to respond, such as provision of transition and full implementation phases.
  8. Addressing new emerging issues by mainstreaming climate change perspectives and promoting private sector investment in forestry.
  9. Developing a ‘national entity’ with local ownership and promoting joint work through stakeholders’ collaboration.
  10. Addressing local, national, and international agendas including sector reform, governance promotion, poverty reduction, and environmental sustainability.
